First Steps Books
First Steps is a series of seven books in French, German, Spanish, Italian and English covering the topics listed below.
- Introducing self and others: First Day at School
- Counting and spelling the numbers to ten: Count with the Best Friends
- Counting to twenty: What Shall we Play?
- Describing hair: Fun Day at School
- The language of maths and spelling the numbers to 20: Count and Spell
- The weather and writing simple postcards: School Holidays
- Clothes: The Fashion Show
Every story has comprehension exercises for each page, with answers for ease of correction, either by the teacher or by the children themselves. The exercises come in English and the chosen foreign language and may be used at the discretion of the teacher according to the ability of the children.
Each pack contains 25 A5 children’s books in full colour and 1 A3 teacher’s book with translations for the teacher if required.
In addition the pack also contains two interactive activities for use on computers (not the English version). These will allow the children to work as individuals/in pairs or small groups. It has the added advantage of actively engaging the whole class and allowing them to save their work on the computer/disc, according to the resources of the individual schools.
The French, German, Spanish and Italian books also come in interactive format (for use on the Smartboard™) – matching foreign language sentences to English and English to the foreign language. These interactive activities will be provided only on request at no extra cost on CD.
The stories and pictures have been developed to gain and then hold the interest of the children. The language is designed to gradually increase the children’s ability and confidence. Normal classroom/school situations have been incorporated into the stories to enable the children to identify with them.
If required, stories may be developed for additional topics on request.
